Lakewood’s free leaf drop-off vs. Junk Same Day

Lakewood runs a free leaf recycling drop-off for residents. If your leaves fit its rules it is a genuinely good deal, so here is the honest comparison rather than a sales pitch.

  City drop-off Junk Same Day
Cost Free From $149
When Nov 7 to Nov 22, 9am to 3pm Any day, year round
Where You drive to the city greenhouse, 9556 W. Yale Ave We come to your house
Bags None accepted, not even compostable. You empty every bag onto the pile Paper, plastic or loose, we do not mind
Branches and brush Not accepted. Leaves only, no woody brush or stumps Branches, brush and prunings go in the same load
Who can use it Lakewood residents, proof of residency required Anyone, including rentals and property managers
Loading You load, drive and unload We load it
Bags? Branches? The city drop-off cannot take either. That is the gap we fill. If you have twelve bags in the garage or a brush pile from a windy week, one call clears the lot.

City details change, so check lakewoodco.gov/leafrecycling or call the city on (720) 963-5240 before you load the car. Staff are on site at weekends only.

How much does leaf pickup cost in Lakewood?

Pricing starts at $149 and is based on how much space the load takes in the truck and how far we carry it. Green waste is heavy and the dump bills us by weight, which is why leaves sit above our $99 single item minimum.

Job Price
A few bags of leaves or a small branch pile $149 to $249
Bagged or loose leaves, bigger clear-out $149 to $299
Multiple piles, shrub removal, fence sections $249 to $399
Full truck load, whole-yard cleanup $349 to $499

Text a photo of the pile and you get a firm number back, usually in minutes. Nothing is loaded until you have agreed the price, and hauling and disposal are in it. Same rates as our yard debris cleanup, and no surcharge for the drive out to Lakewood.

Neighborhoods we cover in Lakewood

Green Mountain, Belmar, Bear Creek, Eiber, Glennon Heights, Solterra, Union Square, Lakewood Heights and the streets around Addenbrooke and Kendrick Lake. If you are closer to Golden, Wheat Ridge or Morrison we still come out.

Lakewood leaf questions

Does Lakewood pick up leaves from the curb? No. The city does not collect leaves from the curbside. It runs a drop-off you drive to, at the city greenhouse on W. Yale Ave, between Nov 7 and Nov 22. Curbside collection in Lakewood is what Junk Same Day does.
Can I take bagged leaves to the Lakewood drop-off?No. The city accepts no bags at all, including compostable ones. You have to tip every bag out onto the pile and take the empty bags home with you. We take the bags and the leaves together.
Can I blow my leaves into the street in Lakewood? No. Sweeping or blowing leaves into the street is against Lakewood Municipal Code, because they block storm drains and foul the street sweepers.
Will you take branches along with the leaves?Yes. Branches, brush and prunings ride in the same load, which is the main thing the free city drop-off will not do.
Do I need to be home for the pickup? No, as long as we can reach the leaves. Leave a gate code, and you can pay once we send a photo of the cleared yard.
