Fence Removal Cost in Denver: What Homeowners Pay in 2026

How Much Does Fence Removal Cost in Denver?

Fence Type Removal Cost (per linear foot) Typical Total (50-200 ft)
Chain-link fence $2 – $5/ft $149 – $499
Wood privacy fence (6 ft) $3 – $7/ft $199 – $649

All pricing includes labor, teardown, loading, hauling, and disposal. Metal fencing is recycled through our GreenHaul™ program.

What Affects Fence Removal Cost?

  • Fence length — More linear feet = higher total cost (but lower per-foot rate on larger jobs)
  • Fence height — A 6-foot privacy fence has 50% more material than a 4-foot picket fence
  • Post depth and material — Concrete-set posts require digging. Metal posts driven into the ground are faster to pull.
  • Condition — Rotting wood fences fall apart quickly (faster removal). Solid, well-maintained fences take longer to disassemble.
  • Access — Side yards with limited access, steep slopes, or landscaping in the way add time
  • Disposal method — Wood goes to disposal, metal goes to recycling (metal fences may cost slightly less because of scrap value offset)

The Fence Removal Process

  1. Remove panels/pickets/rails — We detach fence sections from the posts. Chain-link mesh is rolled for transport.
  2. Pull or dig out posts — Metal posts are pulled with a post puller or hi-lift jack. Wood posts set in concrete require digging around the footing.
  3. Remove concrete footings — Most Denver fences have 18-24 inch concrete footings. We dig these out and fill the holes with dirt.
  4. Load and haul — Everything goes in our truck. Metal is separated for recycling.
  5. Site cleanup — Post holes are filled, debris is raked, your yard is left clean.

When to Remove Your Fence

  • Replacing with a new fence — Most fence installers charge $3-$8/ft extra for old fence removal. Getting it removed independently is often cheaper and lets you get quotes from more installers.
  • Storm damage — Denver’s spring windstorms (60-80 mph gusts) knock down fences every year. A partially fallen fence is a safety hazard and likely an HOA violation.
  • Selling your home — A damaged or leaning fence hurts curb appeal. Removing it entirely looks better than leaving a wreck in place.
  • Rotting wood — Colorado’s dry climate is actually hard on wood fences. Sun exposure, freeze-thaw cycles, and occasional hail accelerate rot.
  • Property line disputes — Sometimes fences are on the wrong side of the property line. Removal resolves the issue.

DIY Fence Removal vs. Professional

Factor DIY Professional
Cost $0-$100 (dump fees, tool rental) $149-$799
Time Full weekend for 100 ft 2-4 hours
Tools needed Post puller, shovel, reciprocating saw, work gloves We bring everything
Disposal Multiple truck loads to the dump Included
Concrete footings Brutal manual labor We handle it
Risk Rusty nails, splinters, back strain Insured crew

DIY fence removal is doable for small runs of picket fencing, but anything over 50 feet with concrete-set posts is a serious physical job. The concrete footings alone can weigh 50-100 lbs each.

Can You Leave the Posts and Just Remove the Fence?

Yes — if you’re installing a new fence on the same posts (and they’re in good condition), we can remove just the panels, rails, and mesh while leaving the posts standing. This reduces cost significantly.
